Black star pastry AKA our daytime local

It's only fitting that I start this little foodie etc blog with a post about Black Star pastry in Australia st, Newtown. I still remember the day I discovered it and felt like a part of Paris had finally arrived in my neighbourhood.
I no longer yearned for a french patisserie. I felt delighted Newtown had started to impress me after returning from Europe a little broken hearted at the local cafe scene.

The staff are down to earth, I often see them at their local, The Courthouse Hotel , after work offering left over pastries in exchange for jugs of Coopers.

My friends and I have enjoyed many afternoons there, sipping Little Marionette coffee, inhaling eclairs and watching the rif raf of Australia Street pass us by. We've made new friends, had inspired conversation, written songs and innocently descended upon mad nights emptying wine bottles after a visit to Black Star.

Its hard to pick a favourite pasty, easier to make a list;

*The chicken sandwich is everything you'd ask for in one
  so satisfying and the bread is bouncy and soft.

*The Strawberry watermelon cake with rose cream tastes
  the way you'd imagine a beautiful spring garden would, it's
  refreshing and creamy with an intoxicating perfume

*The chocolate eclair is a 'must try' item being #7 on smh's list
  The 50 things every Sydney Food lover should try and a
  personal favourite of me and well everyone!

You'll find Black Star Pastry at 277 Australia Street NEWTOWN 2042
and on Facebook and you might just find me perched on a church pew
watching the world go by with a pastry on my lap.

The only chocolate eclair you will ever need.
